Dental implants are restorative dentistry options designed to replace missing teeth. What makes a dental implant different (and in many cases preferable) from standard treatment options such as dentures is that it essentially recreates the function of the tooth right down to the root. Dental implants are made to mimic natural teeth in almost every way, restoring missing teeth with results that can look, function, and feel as though the original teeth were never lost. Dr. Marisa Patt is not only a dentist, but also a prosthodontist, which is a specialty field focused on complex dental restorations such as missing teeth replacement. If dental implants are the right option for your needs, Dr. Patt can create a customized treatment plan capable of restoring your teeth with exceptional results.

Dental Implants: The Pros and Cons

Like all dental options, implants come with their set of benefits and considerations:

Pros:

  • Natural Look and Feel: They’re the next best thing to real teeth. You’ll be able to smile confidently again, eat properly, and only have to brush and floss as though it were a real tooth!
  • Durability: With proper care, the implant can last a lifetime. Your implant’s crown can last well over a decade — sometimes more!
  • Bone Health: Implants can prevent bone loss in the jaw that often occurs with missing teeth.

Cons:

  • Cost: While they can be an investment upfront, remember that their longevity often makes them more cost-effective in the long run compared to other alternatives.
  • Surgery: Implants require a surgical procedure, but with today’s technology, it’s smoother than ever.

What Does the Dental Implant Procedure Involve?

The dental implants procedure involves a multi-stage process. Dr. Patt will utilize state-of-the-art imaging technology along with precise surgical guides to help plan the placement of the implants. This will make it more likely that the implants will be fitted as comfortably and as accurately as possible. An oral surgeon will surgically insert the implants into the gum tissue in the area of missing teeth and anchor them to the jawbone. During a process known as osseointegration, the implants should then fuse to the jawbone itself and serve as a form of artificial tooth root. This process can take several months; however, temporary crowns can often be placed on the implant posts until the implants have successfully fused to the bone. After osseointegration, Dr. Patt will create the custom crowns and affix them to the top of the implant posts, which will complete the treatment. These crowns are meticulously crafted to look and feel like natural teeth while producing a virtually seamless color-blend with surrounding teeth. In fact, the dental implants should be essentially indistinguishable from natural teeth.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

One of the many prominent advantages offered by dental implants is their ability to produce results that can last decades, possibly even a lifetime. Since dental implants are designed to replace the missing teeth all the way down to the roots, they actually become a part of the mouth. With good jawbone health, regular check-ups with the dentist, and excellent oral hygiene routines, many patients are able to experience the positive benefits of dental implants long into the future.

How Much Do Dental Implant Crowns Cost?

The cost of dental implant procedures typically range between $2100-$3300 for a single implant crown at our practice. Please note that this is a very general estimate, and the price varies widely among individuals due to the customized nature of this procedure. The number of implants being placed, the complexity of the treatment, the materials utilized, and other factors will have an effect on the final cost.
